I’m running for ANC Commissioner for 4C02.

Advisory Neighborhood Commissions (ANCs) are non-partisan sub-units of DC's 8 wards. Ward 4, for example, is separated into six ANCs: 4A, 4B, and so on. ANCs are represented by several commissioners, who are each responsible for a small sub-unit of the ANC called a Single Member District (SMD). Each SMD consists of approximately 2,000 people.

4C02 is one of seven SMDs that make up the 4C ANC. It sits within the Petworth neighborhood and is bounded by Taylor Street NW to the north, 14th Street NW to the west, Randolph Street NW to the south, and 8th Street NW to the east.

ANCs act as the voice of their local neighborhood and advise DC government on important issues. Duties include representing the SMD at monthly ANC meetings, voting on resolutions, and serving as a direct point of contact between residents and the city. ANC Commissioners might help file 311 requests, flag issues to the right agency, and collect feedback so neighbors' voices are heard. ANCs have limited formal power, but city agencies are required to give their input "great weight" on things like zoning, liquor licenses, and public space permits.
